Dan's love for adventure began early.
After meeting his future wife Heather at TAFE SA’s Outdoor Education and Tourism Guiding course in 2011-12, they set off on an 11-year odyssey in Kermit, a trusty 1984 model Toyota Hiace. Their emerald, green chariot carried them across the country, from the snowy slopes of Falls Creek in Victoria to the Margaret River surf breaks in Western Australia.
Dan honed his skills as a surfing instructor, sharing his passion for the waves at Mowana and Middleton in South Australia and even the Coral Bay Ningaloo Reef. He braved encounters with majestic white sharks, soaked up the laid-back vibes of Bali, and explored the hidden gems of Northern NSW, Cabarita and Kingscliff. Their adventures veered inland, with Dan supporting a young man with high-functioning autism. They explored the outdoors together, conquering challenges on bike rides, sailing trips, and kayaking. Working behind bars was also in the mix of activities. The Gold Coast called next, offering Dan a chance to share his surfing passion as an instructor. The dynamic tourist activity around the Great Barrier Reef attracted their interest. Dan guided tourists with a snorkel through the underwater magic of the reef. Seven years later, Dan returned to his roots in South Australia. He and Heather married, built a beautiful house, and welcomed Ethan, their son, into the world in 2023. Now, Dan’s back working alongside his dad in the business he helped nurture throughout high school and TAFE, a familiar circle completed. Adventure lingers; Theo, their mischievous Border Collie, keeps him on his toes. And when time allows, Dan still escapes to catch waves or tackle a mountain bike trail. He hasn’t forgotten his footy, golf, or the joy of those annual getaways to hit the slopes in Japan with Heather. Dan’s story is a testament to the allure of adventure and of home. It’s about riding waves, embracing experience, and finding your way back to the place and people you love.
